SYNOPSIS: Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
MY RATING: (★★★★) A horror movie for the millennial age, a Groundhog Day-esq premise set on a college campus. This is the only (I think) PG-13 movie that made it onto my 31 Days of Halloween series. While it’s not super-gory, there are A LOT of killings because …well, she dies “horrifically” every day. It’s more funny than scary, with one-liners and sarcasm throughout. It won’t have you jumping out of your seat, but you may cover your eyes for a few scenes. It’s light-hearted fun with Death as the killer, or so we think. Great for teens or a crowd, not as gory as Scream, and lighter than Halloween, this is a fan favorite. This movie also has one sequel, Happy Death Day II.
With that said … Happy Viewing and enjoy the movie!
