MOVIES: Reviewing …There’s Someone Inside Your House Streaming on Netflix
Hello and welcome (back) to the blog.
Quote from the Book, There’s Someone Inside Your House
“I guess you never really know what’s going on inside someone else’s head.” —Stephanie Perkins
Hello friends, I hope you’re doing well, staying hydrated, checking in with friends and family, and tucking in for the winter season.
My vacation is officially over (so sad), and it’s back to work for me. It’s never been pleasant in past years going back to work but since I telework 70% of the week it helps to ease the pain of annoying emails, mind-numbing meetings, and useless information.
Last year I only managed to review 3 movies which is disappointing because I watch so many. So as a new addition to the blog for 2023, I’m going to sprinkle in a few movie reviews.
Today I’m reviewing ..There’s Someone Inside Your House now streaming on Netflix.
As always there are many opinions and reviews already floating around as the release date of this movie was 2021. This is just my personal opinion, and so it goes.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS “LIGHT” SPOILERS – READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION
There’s Someone Inside Your House is based on a book by Stephanie Perkins. How do I sum up this movie? Think of this as an MTV, Scream kinda slasher flick with teens, dealing with issues, secrets, and lies. It’s hard to review this movie and not give the entire film away in just a few paragraphs, so I’m going to dance around it to give you a general premise.
You would think that the title There’s Someone Inside Your House means …there’s someone inside your physical (literal) dwelling but let’s think of the house in a different way. Let’s think of the word house as your head, your heart, or your personal domain. The secret is what you keep within your mental house, but now someone is in that house trying to expose it.
Someone is bringing these secrets to light, killing them as they are exposed. A killer is trying to show the masses that we all wear a mask so as not to expose our true selves. We wear it when we go out every day and when we interact with people therefore, no one is their true self. (Ok something like that)
“When something terrible happens, people need someone to blame”
Make no mistake. This is a teen slasher flick with all the usual tropes. A group of friends, kinda misfits, or outsiders who check all the boxes in your (average) teen slasher flick. Of course, each of them has a secret that they would like to keep hidden, but the killer isn’t necessarily just after them. In this movie, anyone can be a target.
For example, a class president who seems sympathetic to every plight, who’s personable, and, a straight-A student when really, she follows a right-wing violent podcast and expresses her personal anti-everything views to the masses. This would be a target for the killer. (LOL)
There are no secrets here, this movie is pretty straight forward and within the first 30-45 minutes you know who the killer is, all the stupid mistakes the main character makes, and why can’t folks be more original to this genre?
“The 1% is burning down the world so they can stay warm”
This movie has sat on my list for quite some time. I just figured I would go ahead and watch it because I am a cinephile, and I’m curious about most all movies. I enjoyed the premise, I like a slasher flick, where you don’t quite know who the killer is however this one fell flat for me.
It’s hard to be original in a world full of decades of this genre, but it’s a horror movie so do the business of scaring me. This movie didn’t do that, but it won’t stop me from checking out other movies good or bad. (LOL) Netflix does have some gems like Fear Street, Hush, and Mr. Harrington’s Phone.
If you so desire There’s Someone Inside Your House is streaming on Netflix for your viewing pleasure.
