Best Books to Read for Halloween

Best Books to Read for Halloween

Hello again friends … as I continue my 31 Days of Halloween series + I wanted to share a short list of some good reads for Halloween.  This is such a good time to curl up with a good book and enjoy eerie the feeling that comes along with the Fall Season.  So let’s get started.

Halloween Books

Something Wicked This Way Comes [Ray Bradbury]
STORY: A carnival rolls in sometime after the midnight hour on a chill Midwestern October eve, ushering in Halloween a week before its time. A calliope’s shrill siren song beckons to all with a seductive promise of dreams and youth regained.  NOTE: I’ve read the book and I’ve seen the TV Version…Ray Bradbury has as gift for the creepy.

And Then There Were None [Agatha Christie]
STORY: First, there were ten—a curious assortment of strangers summoned as weekend guests to a private island off the coast of Devon. Their host, an eccentric millionaire unknown to all of them, is nowhere to be found.  NOTE: A classic mystery + I have seen the play + and the movie version.

The Haunting of Hill House [Shirley Jackson]
STORY: Shirley Jackson’s classic tale follows a group of adults, each with skeletons in their closet, who participate in an occult study presided over by Dr. Montague, a man looking for proof of the supernatural.  NOTE: I’ve only seen the movie + great story.

My Best Friends Exorcism [Grady Hendrix]
STORY: An unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist that blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of ’80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.  NOTE: I am interested in this one + they got me with the hole 80s thing.

Dracula [Bram Stoker]
STORY: Dracula is an 1897 Gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. Famous for introducing the character of the vampire Count Dracula, the novel tells the story of Dracula’s attempt to move from Transylvania to England so he may find new blood and spread the undead curse.  NOTE: I’ve only seen this in movie versions new and old.

The Witches [Ronald Dahl]
STORY: This is not a fairy-tale. This is about real witches. Real witches don’t ride around on broomsticks. They don’t even wear black cloaks and hats.  NOTE: My daughter read this book in the 3rd grand and mentioned how creepy it was…I could imagine if I was 8 years old … this reading book might keep me up at night…LOL this is a perfect read for ages 9 and up.

Now if your feeling really brave + and tales of the supernatural and extremely weird don’t bother you … check out these titles … “WARNING” + these titles are typically not for children + may be a complete mind-F&%k + and may disturb your sleep.

IT [Stephen King]
Nightmares: Poems to Trouble Your Sleep [Jack Prelutsky]
The Amityville Horror [Jay Anson]
Halloween [Curtis Richards]…this is an obscure one + I found it online and read this last year…
The Witching Hour  [Jonathan Janz]
House of Leaves [Mark Z. Danielewski]
The Exorcist [William Peter Blatty]

The scariest book I’ve ever read is Reborn [F. Paul Wilson] … once I got to the middle I couldn’t read the book after 10pm at night…and most horror novels don’t bother me + so this one really got under my skin

Thanks so much visiting my blog today + don’t forget to “like” + “follow” + or “comment” and let me know the scariest book you’ve ever read.

Would You Rather … Fall + Halloween Edition

Would You Rather … Fall + Halloween Edition

Personally I’ve never played any of the “Would you rather questions” because I think they’re all tom-foolery + and they also don’t really apply to me.  However this one really grabbed my attention.  Specifically for the Halloween season I searched all over social media looking for lists for my daughter and I + because every Saturday we would sit over our breakfast + and some of these list would spark a really good conversation.

So last year + I finally found one on Tumblr … of all places.  So sit down + get a few friends + have your favorite fall drink + and let’s get down to this “Would You Rather” … Fall + Halloween Edition.

Would you Rather ... Fall Halloween edition.

The list is originally 50 + but I removed a few that were repetitive.  My daughter and I really enjoyed it so have fun with it.  I tried to link back to Tumblr where I found this but the account had been deleted. [FYI – I will always give credit where it is due]

Let me know your favorites in the comments + or include your list + or if you want to know my answers just let me know. If you decide to reblog this make sure to give a link back to Life by Wyetha + and as always thanks so much for visiting today.  Don’t forget to “Like” + and “Follow”. — Peace —

Sunday Journal: Chit-Chat … 52 List for Happiness [List #13]

Sunday Journal: Chit-Chat … 52 List for Happiness [List #13]

Good Morning Friends and Happy Sunday.  I’m back … continuing my 52 List for Happiness journal.  Last week I took a slight detour when I wanted to further talk about my 50 Things at 50.  This week I am at List #13 which says … “List The Things In Your Life You Are Actually Able To Control” … so here we go.

LIST #13 – LIST THE THINGS IN YOUR LIFE YOUA RE ACTUALLY ABLE TO CONTROLIMG_6385

  1. My appearance
  2. What goes in my body
  3. The company I keep
  4. My writing
  5. My behavior

TAKE ACTION: Cross off anything that involves other people.  Ultimately the only things you are going to be able to control are your own actions and choices + and you’ll feel better if you can spend less time worrying about the things you can’t control.  If you feel stressed this week + look at this list and allow your mind to focus on what you can control in a healthy manner rather than what is outside of your control.

In my experience there are very few things in your life that you can control.  Miss Jackson had it right when she said … “This is a story about control … control of what I say + control what I do” + because that’s it really.  When I began my list + adding people + or things in my environment + never crossed my mind.  Those are things that are simply out of the realm of possibility.
