When it comes to exercise I’m in that below 50% range + because I really dread doing it. I know that exercise does more than just help you loose weight and tone your body + but it also provides natural energy + helps you sleep + it’s good for your skin + and helps your memory … who can argue with that. I can’t deny that I love the way my body looks since I’ve been exercising but personally I don’t like anything else about it.
I use to walk + but that’s just plain boring and the very reason why I dread it so. When I gifted my daughter a Wii [several years ago] I would exercise with the Zumba game which is fantastic because you work each and every part of your body. My overall goal wasn’t to loose weight but to just get moving. However when you’ve memorized every song and workout … it’s time for something new + so I searched for something with a bit more variety. Exercise is essential to people dealing with diabetes and it doesn’t matter if you exercise for 15 minutes or an hour + the goal is to get moving. It’s taken me years to find something that wont impact my knee since having surgery a few years ago. So I’ve found that a combination of Yoga + Dance + and Weights is the perfect combination … and yes from time to time that Zumba + or that Just Dance Game does the trick.
Here is a short list of my favorite workouts that I’ve found on You Tube and Apple TV.
VIXEN CARDIO | This 30-minute workout is from POPSUGAR Fitness and available on YouTube. I wasn’t ready for this one when I first tried it + but it gets you moving and you will sweat.
DANCEHALL WORKOUT | This Reggae Dancehall Workout is from Keaira LaShae + and by far my favorite. It’s works the abs + legs + the booty + and really helps to relieve the strain on my lower back. There are also different variations so you can work at your own level. It’s also short and sweet + and I can knock this one out after work.
YOGA | I’ve been practicing Yoga [although not faithfully] for the past 5 years + and I can’t deny that I helps my back + my knees and helps me sleep. Yoga by Adriene is one of the many you can find on YouTube + but it’s the one where the exercises are exactly what learned in physical therapy for my back. There are so many varieties of Yoga + and it works for weight loss + for relaxation + it’s good for your posture + and promotes better sleep. Yoga with Adriene is available on YouTube.

It’s a quiet Sunday morning + and I’m sending my prayers and well wishes to all my friends in the Carolina’s dealing with hurricane Florence. I’m in Virginia and while we will have some rainfall it’s no where near what’s happening to south of me … so again my prayers go out to everyone.
This week will be my first full week back to work + I do face it with some dread. I know I should be thankful that I have a stable job [and I am] but it doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy every bit of my time off. I know that I’m lucky to have these things in my life which brings me to list 10 in my 52 List Journal which asks … “List the Ways That You Feel Lucky”. Throughout my life + I don’t think I appreciated certain things until I got older. So in some ways I am lucky but I also know that I’m blessed.
List #10: List The Ways That You feel Lucky
- I woke up today
- I have a nice place to live
- My daughter turned out [better than ok]
- Good friends
- A loving companion
- I have my faculties
- Big dreams
- I can work with my hands
- Won $500 on a lottery scratch ticket
TAKE ACTION: This week hide something special in a secret corner of your neighborhood: place a crystal along a popular path, hide five dollars under a park bench, or leave an encouraging note in a library book for someone to find. Your love will bring them that feeling of luck!
For this list I’m really focusing on the “Take Action” portion. What better way to spread love and joy then leaving a note for someone to find. It’s so simple yet can be so impactful in someone’s life. Sometimes it’s what you need that day to move you through whatever your feeling. I take pleasure in small things + so seeing something like that from a complete stranger could take me from 0 to 60 + with just one sentence. Again I know I’m lucky to have the things that I have but I’m also blessed + because what may seem simple to me … so many other people don’t have.
Yes … I will address the elephant on the list [so to speak] … and I did win money from 4 scratch tickets. This happened so long ago but it was so impactful during that time. My daughter was starting 2nd grade and my money was tight. I needed to get a long list of school supplies + and the uniform was expensive + plus all the other things that come along with your kids starting school. One side of my brain said … “You don’t have $5 dollars for a scratch ticket” and the other side said “What can it hurt”. I got those tickets home and the first one I won $100 + I was pretty much done with that + so when I scratched the next one and won $150 … I stood there dumbstruck because things like this never happened to me + the next ticket was $50 + the one after that was $200. The last ticket was nothing + but I didn’t care … that was all the luck I needed for the year + and it came at a time when I needed it most.
“I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it”
You can never underestimate the power of certain forces at work behind the scenes in your life. I am thankful … I am grateful … and I am blessed.
