Good Morning Friends! … and happy Sunday. It’s the beginning of another great week. I can’t believe that we are almost into August. Where did summer go + not that I miss the heat + and muggy temps but I can’t believe how fast fall is approaching. Most of the stores already have their fall decor out … it’s crazy + but enough rambling.
I’m at “List 3” of my 52 List for Happiness Journal + and I’m finding some things hard to answer and some things that are really easy. List 3 ask … “List The Things That You Are Really Good At”. Which believe it or not was hard for me because + some things I don’t know that I’m good at until it’s brought to my attention.
LIST 3: “List The Things That You Are Really Good At”
- Making people feel comfortable
- Diffusing a situation
- Remembering recipes
- Talking [vernacular]
- Taking care of people
- Making Things pretty
TAKE ACTION: Underline the things that you had to work for to become good at + and circle the things that you feel come naturally to you. Do any of these things overlap? Just like happiness + it’s already within you. It just takes practice to experience daily! [I’ve colored the text for the things that come naturally + because I haven’t figured out how to circle text]
In my lifetime I’ve had to work at many things + some things I’ve dreaded and some things excite me. Within my list for this exercise … I’ve had to really work at diffusing situations. It’s something that I do on a daily basis at my job + it’s something I do as a Mom + and as a friend + but it didn’t come easy. It took time to learn that craft. Planning is also something that didn’t come easy + and I’ve learned from my mistakes. Remembering recipes … was a skill that took time + now I can look at it once while I prepare it [and if I like it] … I never have to look at the recipe again. Crocheting is something that I really wanted to learn + so I practiced constantstly + it helped to keep my mind busy. I also loved the fact that I was making something with my hands. We live in an age where homemade things are cherished + when I crochet something for someone it’s done with love. I’m also still learning to better that craft.
Being naturally good at something is a blessing and a curse + because when people know that your good at things + they tend to take advantage and exploit that good. At work I was given projects [in the beginning] and told … “Make this pretty”. My daughter says … I need you to help me with this because you can make it pretty. To this day I’m not sure what that really means but I’ll take the kudos every time. [It’s a Mom thing] It’s also one of the reasons why I went to college. To see that pretty from another point of view. I’ve always had a knack for making people comfortable and taking care of people. It’s just my nature + and I also love + love + love organizing. I think some of these things overlap because planning is something I learned within my workplace and being a single Mom which crosses organizing. I do this without even thinking.
“Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like + and celebrating it for everything that it is.” – Mandy Hale
Again I’m learning that within these exercises the quality of what I’m writing vs the quantity. I’m ok with being good at a few things + and maybe there are others that I haven’t even realized. The point I’m making is like the excerpt says … some of these things are within you + and I’m happy that they flow from me. This exercise in particular has put me in a good mood + and it’s just what I need at the start of the week.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog today. — Wyetha [Know Thyself]
